Restoring Nature’s Holme

Led by South Pennine Park, the Defra-funded project Natures Holme is working to create ‘nature-rich’ corridors along more than 20km of the River Holme catchment area in Huddersfield in the South Pennines. Supported by a cross-sector consortium of partners, including local landowners, River Holme Connections, Palladium, local farmers, and the University of Huddersfield, the project covers an area of 2,800 hectares.

Situated between the Peak District, Yorkshire Dales, Greater Manchester, East Lancashire, and West Yorkshire, the South Pennines is home to rare wildlife and deeply connected to our natural, built, and cultural heritage. The project engages local communities, farmers, landowners and key stakeholders to develop solutions focussed on fish migration, hedgerows and planting, wildflower meadows, peat restoration, natural flood management, non-native invasive plants, and sustainable financing.
